Found Poetry

If you haven’t been to Charming Blueberries in a while, I invite you to come take a look at a new feature I have added about Found Poetry.

I ran across this creative art form over the past year as part of some work I was doing for my SoundTangle classes, and I immediately became hooked. It is a way to embrace poetry, language and art. It is a fun way lose yourself, or find yourself with a few quiet moments. I love that the steps are simple but the result can be complex.

Have a look and see if there is a new creative outlet waiting for you.

Enjoy!

Happy favorite day of the year

I love the holidays and the giving, and receiving and family gathering and celebrating with friends, but today is one of my favorite days of the year. No plans, no shopping, lots of leftovers.  The built up anticipation and nervous energy has passed, and the elves are all having a day of rest.

Some friends who don’t really dig the holiday also breathe a sigh of relief that they are done, each for different reasons – so today is a good day for them too.

Happy favorite day! I hope you find many ways to just relax and enjoy this day.

Holiday Stress Relief

holiday-stress

These little popper fellows found a home in our Christmas box a few years ago and after wondering what to do with them, I now place them out on display with a little bowl of balls – for those moments when I just need a stress release.  Also handy for entertaining cats, and making children scream at their siblings.

I like keeping silly little holiday themed toys the kids have received over the year and finding ways to use them.  They always bring a sparkle of delight to the kids as we pull open the Christmas box of goodies and remember past holidays.

Oldies but Goodies: Silver

During the holidays, I love to get out the hand me downs, one of my favorites being the boxes of silverware collected randomly from relatives.  I don’t really have a full set of anything, but I have enough of a few sets to make a fun festive table.  And I have a lot of serving silver which I think are so fancy and fun.

Thanksgiving Serving Pieces above

I have several funny little pieces that no longer are necessary today – but one of them I completely love.  It may be intended for something else but use it as a meat fork in a buffet style.  It has two prongs, and a plunger, so when you stab your piece of meat and lift it to your tray, you can single-handedly release the slice of turkey or roast beef on to your plate by pressing the plunger. It is just genius in its simplicity of operation, especially when you are holding your plate in one hand and maybe carrying a wine glass as well.

I don’t find them new anywhere, but if you see one of these gems in a thrift or antique shop, pick it up. It will help you serve up a little slice of holiday heaven.

Holiday Movie Time!

Another of my favorite holiday movie pairings – Its starting to really feel cold outside, which means it is the perfect time to put on some jammies and curl up with a cocoa, whipped cream and candy canes for the Polar Express.  If only waiters would come clear away my dishes too!

A simply fun holiday tradition! Invite the cousins or neighbors over for a holiday pajama movie party.

Holiday Movie Time!

It is holiday movie time – and for me that means a whole season worth of nostalgia.  For certain films we make an easy evening tradition of a family film with a themed dinner.  So first up for this weekend is A Christmas Story.

I can never sell red cabbage and meatloaf as a meal, so of course the correct pairing with A Christmas Story is Chinese food from your favorite take out. More power to you if you have a bunny suit from Aunt Clara  to wear, or a Red Ryder BB Gun.
