Poem for today: Who Are My People?

WHO ARE MY PEOPLE?

My people? Who are they?

I went into the church where the congregation

Worshiped my God. Were they my people?

I felt no kinship to them as they knelt there.

My people! Where are they?

I went into the land where I was born,

Where men spoke my language…

I was a stranger there.

“My people,” my soul cried. “Who are my people?’

Last night in the rain I met and old man

Who spoke a language I do not speak,

Which marked him as one who does not know my God.

With apologetic smile he offered me

The shelter of his patched umbrella.

I met his eyes… And then I knew…

Poem for today: If I Had Known, Mary Carolyn Davies

If I Had Known

If I had known what trouble you were bearing;

What griefs were in the silence of your face;

I would have been more gentle, and more caring,

And tried to give you gladness for a space.

I would have brought more warmth into the place,

If I had known.

If I had known what throughts despairing drew you;

(Why do we never try to understand?)

I would have lent a little friendship to yoiu,

And slipped my hand within your hand,

And made your stay more pleasant in the land,

If I had known.

Found Poetry

If you haven’t been to Charming Blueberries in a while, I invite you to come take a look at a new feature I have added about Found Poetry.

examples-of-found-poetry

I ran across this creative art form over the past year as part of some work I was doing for my SoundTangle classes, and I immediately became hooked. It is a way to embrace poetry, language and art. It is a fun way lose yourself, or find yourself with a few quiet moments. I love that the steps are simple but the result can be complex.

Have a look and see if there is a new creative outlet waiting for you.

Enjoy!

Happy favorite day of the year

I love the holidays and the giving, and receiving and family gathering and celebrating with friends, but today is one of my favorite days of the year. No plans, no shopping, lots of leftovers.  The built up anticipation and nervous energy has passed, and the elves are all having a day of rest.

Some friends who don’t really dig the holiday also breathe a sigh of relief that they are done, each for different reasons – so today is a good day for them too.

Happy favorite day! I hope you find many ways to just relax and enjoy this day.
